Tomorrow is June 1st
Which means it is the beginning of hurricane season, and time for one of my favorite St. Pete traditions. Hurricanes downtown with some of my favorite folks of Da ‘Burg. We always intend to be a group of 6 or so and end up with far more people - friends who pass us sitting outside and get roped into our shenanigans. Three (or is it four already?) years running, we’ve drunk...

annie werner: One Book, One Tumblr →
fernandofrench: …why isn’t there a “One Book, One Tumblr” project? Tumblr is large enough that at least one or two (thousand) of us like to read, right? If my research is correct – and it probably is because I Googled with quotes – a Tumblr equivalent of “One Book, One Twitter” does not yet…  I am so game.

If Walt Whitman wrote for Groupon
wwnorton: Buy One Round of Mini Golf and GET 2 ROUNDS FREE! Roll on the turf! Let the spheres in their brilliant colors explore the textures alive under foot. The angles and contours are the very pleasures of existence! To see our world miniature, without taking flight; the great challenge of humankind. We’ll play until star fall is upon us and the smallest fracture of wind moves the lighting...

NPR: The Impact of War Project →
nprfreshair: This Memorial Day, we remember our fallen soldiers. Many have died in combat, but increasingly, for off-duty members of the National Guard and Army Reserves, soldiers are dying by their own hands. Nationally, the number of those who’ve committed suicide has nearly doubled from 80 in 2009 to 145 last year. On Fresh Air: Treating Vets with PTSD  // The History of PTSD //...

Tonight.
Austin and I cooked for Nikki, Sabrina and Dev. We made burgers, deviled eggs, baked beans, and potato salad. I grilled romaine and served it with goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. Austin fried green tomatos. For dessert we had limoncello and lemon bars. All in all, a wonderful impromptu Memorial Day meal. Here’s to you and yours.

What I Learned In Joplin
thedeadline: I’m going to write this in a stream of consciousness, the same way I experienced Joplin. It was my first time covering — more accurately, trying to cover — a disaster. The National desk knows I am a weather geek, so I came close to covering the tornadoes in North Carolina in April, and then the tornadoes in Alabama earlier this month. But the timing wasn’t right. This time, it...
