I don’t know how many of you guys listen to Nerdist but it is one of my favorite podcasts.  I started listening back in May when my world turned kind of upside down.  I was changing a lot of things about myself and I needed something different in my life.
One of the things I was changing was cutting a person out of my life.  Part of the problem with that was that I would talk to this person on my way from work to my internship.  Which was an hour long drive.  I needed a distraction from thinking about what I wasn’t doing.  I was searching for podcasts because I couldn’t listen to music without crying.
That was when I came across Nerdist.
It was silly, it was fun, and it was noise.  But mostly I felt like I had found new friends.  Friends that I could listen to but didn’t have to interact with and that couldn’t hurt me because they weren’t real (I realize how insane I sound).

I’ve cut it there (the full post is there if you click through, though, and very sweet - and the pillows are fucking rad), but this particular paragraph really got me.
I think homegirl isn’t insane, but rather very insightful - she’s just listed what I think may be 3 of the real reasons podcasts can be so compelling as a format - and why oftentimes it takes being at a certain point before you really get into them. A lot of the time when I recommend podcasts to friends they complain about the time commitment. You have to be in a place where you have the time to listen, most likely by yourself, for hours - and be excited at the prospect. Put podcasts into your ‘down time’, whether it be because you don’t want to talk to the people you know or are just looking to take your mind of things, and things start to change. You’re learning new things, laughing, and getting inspired to try new things - if for no other reason than podcasting pretty simple thing to do in and of itself, and if it’s having such an effect on you, then you start to think that maybe your little ideas could have an effect on others as well.
Podcasts have undoubtedly changed my life for the better, and all I really do is listen to them and from time to time spew out shit like this (which, I apologize for the rambling - as per usual). At any rate, I think she’s on to something and I hope they like (liked?) the pillows.

Good thing he killed, because that would’ve been awkward if he bombed and then had to propose.

COME SEE MORE MAGICAL MOMENTS AT THE METLDOWN w/ Kumail Nanjiani and Jonah Ray!

Every Wednesday night at MELTDOWN COMICS/NERDMELT THEATRE

Wil Wheaton: King of Photobombs

I’m not nearly the king…that honor goes to Adam Savage.
…but I’m playing the Game of Photobomb Thrones to win, so he’d better be watching his back.
Winter is coming.

I think my favorite thing about these pictures (photobomb aside) is that the way Chris is standing makes it look like he’s Nathan’s prom date.
