NEW YORK—Cheers filled the streets and American flags waved triumphantly through the air today as the nation turned out in full force to celebrate an entire week having passed since the last time a madman opened fire on innocent civilians in some kind of fatal mass shooting. “We did it, folks! We banded together and managed to go seven whole days without killing our fellow Americans in a senseless murdering spree!” Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said in a speech to jubilant throngs gathered in Times Square. “Yes, some people were shot this week, but not in a random, highly public, viscerally disturbing way and—most importantly—not all in one place, by one psychopath. Maybe one day we can live in a society where abominable large-scale gun violence stays out of the national headlines for a whole month even!” At press time, federal authorities had issued a reminder to all Americans that a lot can happen in 24 hours, “so let’s not get too excited yet.

I’m fascinated by the Hourly News app. It’s like comparing front pages of all the different news radio stations.

Also it starts with NPR and BBC, so if I’m short on time it’s a great way to get up to date on what happened overnight with the quickness.

Not sure if you heard, but Reddit has a new CEO, which is kind of big news. Pictured above, Jedberg weighs in on the new guy, and redditors make sure that everything is business as usual. I think we’re in safe hands.

The Tea Party had guns. The Tea Party was spitting on politicians. These people are not a mob. They are peaceful protestors.

[Audio Slideshow] Comedian Lewis Black At Occupy Wall Street

Comedian Lewis Black, most notable for his “Back In Black” segments on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” program, gave Turnstyle News an interview during the Occupy Wall Street protests on October 5, 2011. Standing on the sidelines of Foley Square, Black was virtually unnoticed by the revelers around him, smoking a cigarette and trying to capture the events for himself on his mobile phone.

Turnstyle reporter Charlie Foster caught up with Black and gathered his thoughts on the growing movement.

Before Muammar Qaddafi’s departure, artistic expression in Libya had one face: Muammar Qaddafi. Painting meant depicting the ruler’s revolutions on canvas. Singing meant praising Qaddafi through poetic rhythms. Literature meant studying the dictator’s political philosophy in his famous Green Book.
But after a life of forced silence under Qaddafi, Libyans and Libyan artists have a lot to say.
On the ground in Tripoli, Pulitzer grantee Ellen Knickmeyer witnessed a splash of limitless creativity in every corner of Libya’s capital. Weekly Friday art exhibitions, neighborhood break-dancing mobs, and elaborate graffiti drawings splatter through the streets, filling the urban art scene.

An amazing image — someone is projecting this message onto the side of a building on Trinity Place near Zuccotti Park, aka Liberty Square: a second march down to Bowling Green, due south.
Unclear if the police will even allow this.
